Kidney Disease & Dialysis

Kidney disease (nephropathy) is when the kidneys no longer properly filter waste products from the blood. It may occur slowly, with few initial symptoms, or progress very quickly (acute renal failure). The two most common causes of kidney disease are diabetes and high blood pressure, although an injury may also impair kidney function. Diet and medication can help, but severe kidney failure requires dialysis. In some cases, a kidney transplant may be an alternative to dialysis.
