Recovery is a process that over time helps a person with a mental health or substance abuse problem find a path to living a meaningful life. It helps people make lifestyle, attitude, and behavior changes so they can reach their goals.
Recovery is used for problems such as alcohol or drug abuse, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Medicines and therapy usually are needed for successful recovery.
