QST is used to determine the presence and severity of nerve damage. It uses temperature to assess damage to small nerve endings and vibration to assess damage in large nerve endings. It can be used in the diagnosis and treatment of a number of conditions including neuropathy, carpal tunnel syndrome, multiple sclerosis and complex regional pain syndrome. The test is noninvasive and usually does not involve any discomfort.
