Pediatric Oncologist Definition by Healthwise:

Pediatric Oncologist

Pediatric oncologists are doctors who specialize in diagnosing and treating cancer in children and teens. They also see children who have had cancer and manage care for them if the cancer returns.

Treatments for children who have cancer are not the same as treatments for adults who have cancer. And children may respond and react to treatments in ways that are different from how adults respond. Pediatric oncologists are trained to meet the needs of children who have cancer.

These doctors can be certified through the Board of Pediatrics. This group is recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties. Many pediatric oncologists also get certified in hematology, the study of blood and blood diseases.
