Head, Face & Jaw

Head, face and jaw pain can result from a number of injuries and conditions. Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) involves the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) in the jaw. An inflamed facial nerve (neuralgia) may also cause face pain. Head or facial injury can range from a broken nose or broken jaw to head trauma (e.g., concussion). Diagnosing the cause of face and head pain may involve an x-ray or computer tomography (CT) scan. Treatment depends on the condition, but can include physical therapy, arthroscopy and surgery.
