A food allergy is an immune-system response to an ingredient in food that the body mistakes as harmful. The most common food allergies are milk allergy, wheat allergy, gluten allergy, peanut allergies and egg allergy. Food intolerances occur when food irritates the digestive system or cannot be broken down by the digestive system. Lactose intolerance is the most common.
