Eye Infections & Injuries

An eye infection can be caused by bacteria, viruses or fungi. Common eye infections include conjunctivitis (pink eye), keratitis and ocular histoplasmosis syndrome (OHS). Most pink eye is viral and gets better by itself. Eye pain is always a reason to contact your doctor. Eyelid irritations include styes, blepharitis and chalazia. Blocked tear ducts are most common in infants. Eye injuries include detached retinas and burns. Depending on the cause, treatments for eye problems may include drugs such as antibiotics or surgical procedures such as vitrectomy.
