A seizure occurs because of sudden, abnormal electrical activity in the brain. Epilepsy is a brain disorder that causes recurring seizures. Types of seizures include partial seizures, absence seizures, grand mal seizures and tonic-clonic seizures. Epileptic patients can be helped by seizure medication and a ketogenic diet (epilepsy diet). Seizure disorders have many causes, including head injury, high fever and medication.
