Prevention
You cannot control some things that put you
at risk for
breast cancer, such as your age and being female. But
you can make personal choices that lower your risk of breast cancer.
- Stay at a healthy weight.
- Eat a healthy diet with plenty of fruits,
vegetables, and whole grains.
- Get plenty of physical activity.
- Limit alcohol to no more than one drink a day.
If you think you are at high risk for breast cancer
If you are concerned about your risk for breast cancer, talk with your doctor. He or she can help you understand your risk if you have a strong family history of breast cancer. Based on your risk, your doctor will recommend a screening schedule for you.
Your doctor may talk with you about genetic testing, the risks and benefits of taking , or even surgery if your risk is very high.
