Prevent “traveler’s back” with frequent breaks while on the road.
Taking time to move around and stretch while you’re traveling can save
you from the misery and disruption of back pain.
Many of us know from experience: Sitting in a car or on a plane for
hours at a time can take a toll on our backs. But even though we feel the pain
in our back, the causes for this misery are often the muscles in our legs or hips,
as well as our lower backs, which can stiffen up being stuck in one position
for too long. These stiffened up muscles put pressure on our spines. To avoid
this stiffness-to-soreness cycle, commit to stopping your car for a walk or
strolling up and down the airplane aisle once every hour.
